Abstract
The NIP outlines Denmark's obligations under the Stockholm Convention and the EU POP Regulation, which mandates the reduction or elimination of POPs. The EU POP Regulation, established in 2019, imposes a general ban on the production and use of listed substances, with specific exemptions for research and unintentional trace contaminants. It also sets concentration limits for waste containing POPs, requiring that such waste be treated to eliminate or transform the POPs. The document includes a summary of initiatives and a timetable for implementing measures related to newly added POP substances, such as PFOA and PFHxS. Key initiatives involve monitoring the presence of these substances in the environment, assessing waste incineration practices, and reminding stakeholders of their obligations regarding stockpiles of POPs.
The Plan is designed in 9 Parts and in the first part issues related to objectives, newly added POPs, previous NIP and review of the relevant regulations are discussed. The Plan is followed by analysing production and use of various POPs in Denmark, and strategy and measures to reduce or eliminate the release by substance.
