Abstract
This Act makes provision for matters related to the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity including hydropower and for a rural electrification programme. It establishes the Independent Regulatory Commission.
The Commission shall control and supervise the electricity sector and develop legislation and standards for the sector, having regard to national and international environmental standards. Holders of licences to generate, transmit or supply electricity shall observe environmental standards. Holders of a generation licence shall have certain powers in respect of water resources.
