Abstract
This Act provides for the establishment of the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation, defines its powers and functions and provides for other matters relating to the Corporation.
The Corporation shall, among other things: provide storage and treatment facilities for solid waste, handle transport ship-generated waste, develop and manage new landfill sites, introduce measures to encourage recycling and provide facilities for medical and hazardous waste.
In performance of its functions the Corporation shall comply with the provisions of the Public Health Act, 1968 and other environmental and health legislation.
The Act further, among other things, imposes an environmental levy on each visitor of Dominica, provides for haulage and tipping fees as set out in Schedule 2 and prohibits the removal of material from landfill sites.
