Abstract
The National Radiation Safety Development Plan 2008-2017 is a national sectoral plan of Estonia. Its main objective is ensuring radiation safety. Strategic subobjectives of the Plan are as follows: 1) suppression of hazards associated with radioactive waste and its management; 2) ensuring preparedness for response to radiation emergencies; 3) improvement of the awareness of sources of elevated natural radiation; 4) ensuring optimised use of radiation in medicine; and 5) creation of optimised radiation safety ensuring system in the Republic of Estonia. Among others, the Plan provides for preparation of a list of public water supplies producing drinking water with elevated radionuclides content; and research regarding, among others, radon content of the Cambrian-Vendian groundwater.
