Abstract
A Law to provide for the nationality and registration of ships in Ethiopia, use of Ethiopian ships, and navigation in Ethiopian waters.
The provisions of this Code are divided into 9 Titles: Ships (I); Shipowners, managers and the master (II); Regulation of maritime employment (III). Contracts relating to the use of the ship (IV); Maritime collisions, assistance, and salvage (V); Participation in general average (VI); Insurance (VII); Penal provisions (VIII); Miscellaneous.
Articles 4 to 6 deal with the nationality of ships, i.e. specify criteria for the qualification as Ethiopian ship or for owning an Ethiopian ship. Remaining provisions of Title I deal with ownership of ships and rights on ships and the registration of ships in registers kept at every Ethiopian port. Article 46 concerns marking of ships.
