Abstract
The Ethiopia National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) 2025–2030 establishes a national policy framework for the conservation, sustainable use and equitable sharing of biodiversity resources in Ethiopia over the specified period. The Strategy recognises biodiversity as a critical foundation for ecosystem services, livelihoods and economic development, while acknowledging the increasing pressures arising from land‑use change, climate variability, overexploitation of resources and weak institutional capacity. The NBSAP sets out a national vision, strategic objectives and priority targets aimed at reversing biodiversity loss and strengthening ecosystem resilience. It identifies key thematic areas including ecosystem conservation and restoration, species protection, sustainable agriculture and forestry practices, and the integration of biodiversity values into economic decision‑making. The Strategy further emphasises the role of protected areas, community‑based natural resource management and sustainable land use practices in maintaining ecological integrity. In addition, it promotes the conservation of genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from their use, consistent with international access and benefit‑sharing principles. Cross‑cutting issues such as gender equality, stakeholder participation, traditional knowledge and climate change adaptation are incorporated to ensure inclusive and effective implementation.
