Abstract
The National Nutrition Sensitive Agri‑Food Systems Strategy (2024–2030) establishes a policy and implementation framework to address food insecurity and malnutrition in Ethiopia through a nutrition‑integrated agri‑food systems approach. It replaces the prior Nutrition‑Sensitive Agriculture Strategy. The Strategy aims to improve national food and nutrition security by increasing the availability, accessibility, affordability, safety, and quality of diverse and nutritious foods, while promoting healthy dietary consumption. It adopts a systems-based theory of change linking agricultural production, post‑harvest management, markets, food safety, consumption practices, institutional capacity, and social inclusion. Six strategic objectives govern implementation: enhancing food availability and access; strengthening resilience of vulnerable communities; reducing post‑harvest loss through value addition, quality, and safety management; improving dietary diversity and healthy consumption; strengthening food and nutrition governance and institutional capacity; and ensuring the empowerment and participation of women, youth, and vulnerable groups. The Strategy sets out detailed implementation arrangements, assigns lead and collaborating responsibilities across government, research institutions, development partners, the private sector, and financial institutions, and establishes a monitoring, evaluation, and learning framework with defined indicators and targets through 2030.
