Abstract
This Proclamation provides for the ratification by Ethiopia of the Protocol to the African Charter On Human and Peoples Rights on The Rights of Women in Africa ("Maputo Protocol"), and specifies the reservations made by Ethiopia when signing the Protocol. Those reservations concern, among other things, marriage and inheritance. The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is given the responsibility to cooperate with other relevant organs to implement and follow-up the Protocol. The Protocol defines, among other things, the right of women to nutritious and adequate food and requires member States to take action to provide women access to clean drinking water, sources of domestic fuel, land, and the means of producing nutritious food and water. They shall also promote women’s access to and control over productive resources such as land and guarantee their right to property.
