Abstract
This bilateral agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between Viet Nam and the United States to combat illegal logging and timber trade. It emphasizes sustainable forest management, transparency, and enforcement of timber legality. Key provisions include the prohibition of commercial use of confiscated timber, elimination of financial incentives for illegal timber, enhanced customs inspections, and stricter verification of timber imports—especially from high-risk countries. Viet Nam commits to revising relevant laws and regulations to strengthen its Timber Legality Assurance System (VNTLAS) and ensure comprehensive coverage of all entities in the timber supply chain.
