Abstract
Starting from the assumption that illegal trade in specimens of species causes serious damage to wildlife resources, reduces the effectiveness of wildlife management programmes, undermines legal, sustainable trade and threatens sustainable development, with this text the Commission recommends the adoption by Member States of the outlined actions, in order to facilitate the enforcement of Regulation (EC) No 338/97 on the protection of species of wild fauna and flora by regulating their trade.
The recommendation establishes recommended actions to be taken by Member States in order to increase enforcement capacity and to increase cooperation and information exchange.
It also states that the information concerning the measures taken on its basis should be transmitted to the Commission.
