Abstract
This Regulation fixes for 2003 and 2004, for stocks of deep-sea species, fishing opportunities applicable annually to Community vessels in zones where catch limitations exist. It establishes also the conditions under which such fishing opportunities may be utilised. Subsequently, fish from stocks for which fishing opportunities are fixed shall not be retained on board or landed unless: a) the catches have been taken by vessels of a Member State having a quota and that quota is not exhausted; or b) catches are taken during scientific investigations carried out in compliance with Regulation 850/98/EC. Two Annexes are attached. Annex I identifies the fish species which shall be covered by the present provisions and, further, specifies the aforesaid fishing opportunities applicable for Community vessels by species and by area. Annex II identifies those stocks which shall be subject to the various measures of Regulation 847/96/EC, which introduces additional conditions for year-to-year management of TACs and quotas.
