Abstract
The Contracting Parties hereby establish the principles, rules and procedures which shall govern economic, financial, technical and scientific cooperation between them in the fisheries sector, with a view to enhancing responsible fishing in the Solomon Islands fishing zone, guaranteeing the conservation and sustainable exploitation of fisheries resources and developing the Solomon Islands fisheries sector.
The Agreement sets out: (a) the conditions governing access by Community fishing vessels to the Solomon Islands fishing zone; (b) the arrangements for policing fisheries in the Solomon Islands fishing zone; (c) the measures for an effective conservation and management of fish stocks; (d) measures aimed at the prevention of illegal, undeclared and unregulated fishing. Article 9 provides for the establishment of a Joint Committee which shall be in responsible for monitoring the performance, interpretation and implementation of the Agreement. The Annex attached to the Protocol defines the procedure for obtaining a fishing licence for a vessel, the fees applicable and the method of payment to be used by shipowners.
