Abstract
This Protocol specifies the conditions governing fishing activities by Union vessels in accordance with the sustainable fisheries partnership. Article 2(1) lists annual indicative level of the fishing opportunities granted to Union vessels to engage in fishing activities for the species and respective management areas by the Greenlandic competent authorities. By-catch shall be limited to a rate of 5 % in the Northern prawn fisheries and 10 % in other fisheries and any specific fishing authorisation shall not be granted for by-catches.
The Union shall provide financial contribution and sectoral support. Both parties will cooperate on sustainable exploitation of the fishery resources and sustainable experimental fisheries. New fishing opportunities wil be included in Article 2(1), subject to a proportional increase in the part of the financial contribution. The application of this Protocol, including payment of the financial contribution, may be suspended, or reviewed as for the financial contribution, at the initiative of either of the Parties. This Protocol and the Annex thereto shall apply for a period of 6 years from the date of the start of its provisional application.
