The Protocol establishes that the Community will provide a financial contribution for scientific and technical programmes to promote better understanding and management of fisheries and living resources in Mauritius fishing zone and for study grants and practical training courses. In addition, tuna seiners and surface longliners may fish in the waters of Mauritius except within a distance of 12 nautical miles measured from the baseline and Community tuna vessels shall endeavour to sell part of their catch to the Mauritian tuna canning industry at a price to be fixed in common agreement between Community shipowners and the owners of the Mauritian tuna canning industry.
