Act to amend the Water Act (No. 87 of 1993).

These amendments to the principal Act implement, in Finland, obligations deriving from the participation to the Agreement on the common economic area concluded with the European Communities and concern the following Chapters: General provisions (Chap. 1); Diversion of water for use in liquid form and the abstraction of groundwater (Chap. 9); Waste water and other substances which pollute watercourses (Chap. 10); and Miscellaneous provisions (Chap. 21).
Amendments of Chapter 1 concern the general restrictions placed on the use of water with a view to environment protection. The amended provisions of Chapter 9 (sects. 3(a) and 169) concern the quality of surface water and permits for the introduction of water into the soil which shall be granted by the Water Court.
