Abstract
The present Act creates the Equality Ombudsman, within the administrative area of the Ministry of Justice, for the purposes established in the Act on gender equality (No. 609 of 1986). The The Government shall appoint the Equality Ombudsman for a maximum term of five years at a time. The Equality Ombudsman shall: 1. Monitor compliance with the Gender Equality Act, especially the prohibitions against discrimination and discriminatory advertising; 2. Promote the purpose of the Gender Equality Act through initiatives, advice, and guidelines; 3. Provide information about gender equality legislation and its application; 4. Ensure that gender equality is achieved in all areas of society; 5. Take measures to achieve a settlement in a case concerning discrimination under the Gender Equality Act.
