Abstract
The purpose of this Act is to prevent discrimination based on gender and to promote gender equality between women and men, and to improve women's status particularly in the workplace for this. The Act also aims to prevent discrimination based on gender identity or gender expression. Authorities are mandated with promoting gender equality in a targeted and systematic manner and with creating and consolidating such administrative procedures and approaches that ensure the promotion of gender equality between women and men in the preparation of cases and decision-making. Rules on gender equality are further laid down concerning promotion of gender equality at educational institutions; employers' obligation to promote gender equality; measures for promoting gender equality in the workplace; prohibition of direct and indirect discrimination on the base of gender; discrimination in different settings; paying of compensation in case of discrimination; provision of information to the Equality Ombudsman; etc.
