Abstract
The present Act establishes the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park in accordance with the Nature Conservation Act (No. 1096 of 1996), in order to protect the most representative mountain range in western Lapland, along with the associated forest and marshlands preserved in their natural state and characterized by wilderness, as well as the species found therein, and with consideration for excursions, research, and educational purposes. In deviation from the provisions of Section 51(1)(4) of the Nature Conservation Act, the Act prohibits fishing in the spawning grounds for Arctic char in Lake Pallasjärvi, in waters with naturally occurring populations of brook trout, or in waters inhabited by Arctic char. The Act contains rules on the rights of the local population; construction within the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park area; as well as protection measures.
