Act on the practice of veterinary medicine (No. 29 of 2000).

The purpose of the present Act is to: 1. Ensure that practitioners of veterinary medicine have the necessary education and possess the other skills required for professional practice; and 2. Organize the supervision of the activities conducted by practitioners of veterinary medicine. Only those who are licensed veterinarians according to this Act or who are temporarily authorized to practice veterinary medicine according to this Act have the right to practice as veterinarians. The right to practice as a licensed veterinarian is granted by the Food Safety Authority according to this Act.
The Act contains 48 Articles, organized in the following chapters: 1. General provisions; 2. Licensure as a veterinarian and temporary practice of veterinary medicine; 3. Rights and obligations for practitioners of veterinary medicine; 4. Governance of and supervision over practitioners of veterinary medicine; 5. Administrative security measures; 6. Disciplinary and penalty provisions; 7. Veterinary register and list of veterinarians; 8. Special provisions; 9. Entry into force and transitional provisions.
