Abstract
The purpose of this Act is to promote the production of electricity from renewable energy, enhance the competitiveness of these energy sources, diversification of electricity production and improve self-sufficiency in electricity. The tariff system applies to an electricity supply through wind turbines, biogas power plants, wood chips power plants or fuelwood power plants. Wind turbines, biogas power plants, wood chips power plants or fuelwood power plants can be approved for the tariff structure, if located in Finland or in Finnish territorial waters and is connected to an electricity grid there. The electricity supplier shall apply to the Energy Market Authority for approval of supply systems and must be made prior to commercial operation. The target price for electricity from one of the tariff system approved wind turbines, biogas power plants and fuelwood power plants is of EUR 83.50/megawatt hour. Input price may be increased by a heat premium that is EUR 20/megawatt-hour of electricity from fuelwood power plants and EUR 50/megawatt-hour for electricity from biogas plants.
To gain entry price the electricity producer should to submit an application to the Energy Market Authority within two months after the price period is over. An application for a feed-in tariff for electricity from wood chips may simultaneously apply more than four consecutive price periods. To gain entry price the electricity producer should submit its application to the Energy Market Authority within two months after the last of these price periods expired.
The Energy Market Authority is entitled to obtain information necessary for the supervision of compliance with this Act from electricity generators and network operators.
