Act on support for water and wastewater measures (No. 686 of 2004).

The present Act contains provisions on the support of water and sewage measures with appropriations granted for this purpose in the state budget. Water and sewage measures refer to measures that serve the water supply in connection with residential areas or in connection with business and recreational activities comparable to residential areas, i.e., the leading, treatment, and delivery of water for use as household water, as well as the drainage and treatment of sewage, including the treatment and utilization of the sludge that arises thereby. Water and sewage measures can be supported by granting subsidies for the purpose (water service subsidies) or by carrying out the measures as state work. Support may be granted for measures aimed at: 1) Achieving regional cooperation in water services; 2) Ensuring water services in special situations; 3) Establishing the water services referred to in Section 1 of the Water Services Act in rural communities and sparsely populated areas; or 4) Preventing pollution of surface and groundwater or improving the condition of surface and groundwater.
