Agreement
Abstract
The Agreement between Finland and Estonia aims to promote sustainable water conservation and environmental protection, particularly in the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea. It establishes targets for reducing wastewater pollution from communities, industries, fish farms, agriculture, and forestry by 2005. The Agreement also covers cooperation in research, education, and information exchange related to water conservation. It sets up a joint water protection group to monitor implementation and requires annual reporting on progress. The document includes provisions for notifying each other about accidents or exceptional situations affecting the marine environment. The Agreement entered into force on January 26, 2000, replacing a previous 1993 agreement on water conservation cooperation between the two countries.
