Abstract
The present Decree, of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, implements Council Directive 2001/110/EC relating to honey. It applies to honey and honey products as defined in Annex 1. These products must meet the requirements and standards specified in Annex 2. The term "honey" should only be applied to the products listed in point 1 of Annex 1 and must be used in marketing to designate these products. Except for filtered honey and bakery honey, the names of honey products may be accompanied by information on: 1) The product's origin from flowers or plants, provided that it exclusively or predominantly comes from the specified source and possesses organoleptic, physico-chemical, and microscopic characteristics typical of that source; 2) The product's regional, territorial, or topographical origin, provided that it exclusively comes from the specified source; and 3) Specific quality criteria. In addition, the following labeling requirements apply to honey: a) The country or countries of origin where the honey was harvested must be stated on the label; b) For bulk containers and boxes containing filtered honey or bakery honey, the complete product name "filtered honey" or "bakery honey" must be clearly indicated; and c) Immediately following the term "bakery honey," the phrase "for use only in other foods and cooking" must be included. On retail packaging for honey, it must be stated that honey should not be given to children under 1 year of age.
