Decree of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry relative to veterinary border controls of foodstuffs of animal origin (No. 785 of 1999).

This Decree provides for border controls of various products of animal origin intended for human consumption and imported from third countries. The border control is carried out in order to safeguard the hygienic quality of the food imported and to prevent the spreading of animal diseases.
The Decree consists of 69 sections and 6 Annexes. The sections are divided into 11 Chapters: General provisions (1); Border transit points, border control stations, and control officers (2); Veterinary control of import lots destined for marketing in Finland, in another member state or another third country (3); Veterinary control of import lots destined for customs areas and deposits (4); Veterinary control of import lots destined for food storage (5); Veterinary control of import lots being returned from third country (6); Import conditions that apply to special lots (7); Other notifications (8); Notifications that apply that apply to import procedures and controls (9); Rejection of import lots (10); Special provisions (11).
