Decree of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on survey of cattle for EHEC in slaughterhouses and animal husbandry sites (No. 24 of 2006).

This Decree of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, made under sections 20, 25 and 40 of the Food Act and section 12 of the Act concerning animal diseases, concerns the control of Enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) affecting bovines. It provides for: a) survey of beef for EHEC in slaughterhouses and small slaughterhouses; b) testing for EHEC in livestock locations when EHEC bacteria have found in cattle; and c) testing for EHEC on a rearing place for beef which is suspected to have been in contact with EHEC infection occurring in humans. The Decree prescribes measures that shall be taken to control the disease, including notification of existence of the disease in meat and visits of inspection veterinaries to slaughterhouses where the disease has been diagnosed. The Schedules concern sampling and testing in slaughterhouses.
