Government Decree on a beverage packaging return system (No. 888 of 1987).

The present Government Decree applies to beverage packaging return systems as referred to in Section 68 of the Waste Act (646/2011). It contains rules on the amount of the deposit for beverage containers; obligation for reuse and material recycling; report on solvency and operational plan concerning the arrangement of reuse and waste management; application for approval for entry in the producer register; among other matters. The responsible party for a beverage container return system must arrange for the reception, reuse, and material recycling of beverage containers covered by the return system in such a way that a quantity of containers corresponding to the amount released on the market by the members of the return system each year is returned: 1) at least 90 percent by weight of reusable beverage containers for reuse; 2) at least 90 percent by weight of single-use beverage containers for material recycling.
