Abstract
The present Decree aims to establish a comprehensive framework for the management and protection of the marine environment in Finland, in accordance with the European Union Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). It outlines the responsibilities of authorities, the process for developing and implementing a national marine strategy, and measures for monitoring and assessing the state of the marine environment.
The Decree contains 19 sections organized in the following chapters: 1. General provisions; 2. Investigations needed for the initial assessment of the marine environment's condition; 3. Determination of what constitutes good environmental status in the marine environment and environmental objectives in marine conservation planning; 4. Action program of the marine management plan; 5. Monitoring program of the marine management plan; 6. Development and review of the marine management plan; 7. Special provisions.
Entry into force notes
This Decree enters into force on 01 September 2011.
