Abstract
The present Government Decree contains provisions on packaging and packaging waste in Finland. It aims to promote sustainable packaging practices, reduce packaging waste generation, and ensure the proper management of packaging waste. The Decree sets requirements for the design, production, and labeling of packaging to minimize environmental impacts. These include: Reusable Packaging, Recyclable Packaging, Reduced Packaging Content, and Clear Labeling. The Decree also establishes a producer responsibility scheme for packaging, making producers financially responsible for the collection, recycling, and recovery of packaging waste generated from their products, in particular beverage bottles. Ambitious targets for the collection and recycling of packaging waste are also included.
