Regulation laying down rules for fishing in the Baltic (No. 255 of 1988).

This Regulation shall apply to fishing by Finnish citizens and Finnish fishing vessels in the Convention Area in the sense of the Convention on Fishing and the Conservation of Living Resources in the Baltic and the Great Belt. The area comprises the marine areas of the Baltic and its bay excluding the inner territorial waters and areas beyond a specified line. In the Convention Area fixed or floating gear other than gear indicated in section 16 of the Fisheries Regulation (1116/82) shall not be used. No use shall be made of explosives or poisonous substances (sect. 2). No cod shall be caught separately for processing as fish meal or oil or fodder (sect. 3). Sections 5 to 9 place limits on the use of various kinds of gear mainly with respect to its size and installation. Section 10 specifies close seasons for spike, sea salmon, pleuronectes platessa, and flounder. Minimum size of these fish species and cod is specified in section 11. The remaining provisions of the Regulation deal with the obligation to report on catch (sect. 12) and control of fishing and measures of enforcement (sects. 13 to 17).
