Abstract
The present Act contains provisions on wildlife management. It regulates the Finnish Wildlife Agency, whose tasks are to promote sustainable wildlife management, support the activities of hunting associations, ensure the implementation of wildlife policy, and perform public administrative duties prescribed for the Agency. The Finnish Wildlife Agency is directed and supervised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The Act further regulations hunting associations, whose activities shall be under the direction and supervision of the Finnish Wildlife Agency. Hunting associations are given the following public administrative tasks: 1) to organize shooting tests and hunter exams according to the law; 2) to participate in field investigations referred to in Section 25 of the Game Damage Act; 3) to assist the authorities responsible for monitoring compliance with the Hunting Act in supervising hunting; and 4) other public administrative tasks. They shall further: 1) promote sustainable game management; 2) promote sustainable, safe, and ethically acceptable hunting; 3) promote game care, the sustainability and vitality of game populations, the management of game habitats, and the prevention of damage caused by game; 4) provide expert, training, and advisory services related to hunting, game management, and game; 5) perform other tasks prescribed for the hunting association.
