Animals Importation Act (CAP. 159).

"Animal” in this Act means any living animal including mammas, birds and reptiles and eggs, semen or carcass thereof. The Minister may define lands as quarantine grounds and the Permanent Secretary for Agriculture and Fisheries may give directions regarding the management and control of such areas (sect. 3). Sections 4 and 5 introduce restrictions on the importation of animals. Importation of animals, fodder, manure and animal products requires a permit from the assistant Director of Agriculture. No persons shall import introduce into Fiji any animals listed in section 5 subject to provisions of section 6. Remaining provisions of this Act concern seizure of animals, duties of specified persons to prevent landing of non-authorised importation, offences, the power of the Minister to impose additional restrictions on importation, and regulation making powers of the Minister. The Schedule lists controlled diseases or pests.
