Abstract
These Regulations lay down rules as regards goods prohibited from importation or export; goods which may be imported or exported only on conditions; importation or export of goods subject to license; prohibited imports consigned to places outside the Fiji Islands; goods prohibited from importation or export under other laws; and exemptions.
Schedule 2 lists the goods of which the importation is prohibited unless specified conditions, restrictions or requirements are complied with, including but not limited to: edible oils, milk, and whale's teeth (tabua).
In accordance with the Animals Importation Act, any animal, animal products, animal manure, packing-material, fittings or fodder shall not be imported (i) without the written permission of the Assistant Director of Agriculture (Animal Health and Production); or (ii) in contravention of any regulations made under the provisions of the Act. Furthermore, all plants and plant material, bacteria, virus, soil, sand, clay, earth, plant pests or other invertebrate animals shall not be imported, except in accordance with the provisions of the Plant Quarantine Act, 1982 and regulations made thereunder. The import of substances with ozone depleting potential is prohibited.
The export of all birds, cattle, reptiles, amphibians, whale's teeth (tabua), unprocessed turtle shell, timber, sugar and coffee is subject to specific conditions, restrictions or requirements. In accordance with the Act, the export of live fish of any kind is prohibited.
