Abstract
This Act requires a Fiji Meteorological and Hydrological Services to be established. The objectives of this Act are to: (i) facilitate the effective and efficient provisions of the Service; (ii) promote public-private engagement in the delivery of the Service; and (iii) enable the issuance of an impact-based forecast that contribute to Fiji’s multiple hazard early warning system. This Act lays down rules for the establishment, functions and funds of the Meteorological and Hydrological Services, and the powers of the Director. The functions of the Service include, but not limited to: gathering the systematic collection, recording, management and analysis of meteorological and hydrological data and information; issuing warnings of gales, storms and other weather conditions likely to endanger life or property, including weather conditions likely to give rise to floods, forest fires, droughts or storm surges; and monitoring, analyzing and advising on long term climate trends.
