Abstract
This Act makes provision for measures to better manage the state of calamity caused by a natural disaster. It provides for the establishment of the National Disaster Management Council, the National Disaster Management Office and the National Emergence Operation Centre and for the appointment of the National Disaster Controller, the National Disaster Co-ordinator and the Disaster Service Liaison Officer.
The Act further lays down conditions and procedures for the proclamation of natural disasters and defines functions of each state agency or official in respect of natural disasters and grants special powers to specified agencies and officials and the Cabinet during the declaration of a natural disaster. The Act also makes provision for relief, rehabilitation, post-disaster review and with respect to disaster awareness and preparedness.
