Abstract
The present document contains Fiji's National Strategic Plan on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) prevention and control for the period 2010-2014, adopting a multi sectoral, "whole of government" and "whole of society" approach. The aim of the Plan is to improve Fiji national NCD status by 5% in 2014. The two major priorities of the plan are improving risk behaviour and improving medical intervention. Each of these priority areas have four components each, which in turn have five strategic intervention areas applied to life course considering body, mind and spirit.
With regard to nutrition as risk behaviour, the Plan aims at increasing production and consumption of local foods by the people of Fiji by 2014. Specific actions include implementing the Food and Nutrition Policy; implementing the promulgation of Food Safety Standards 2009; improve clinical nutrition and dietetics services; communicating and implementing the Plan of Action on Nutrition and the Food Based Dietary Guideline. Other NCDs factors addressed are alcohol, physical inactivity and tobacco use.
