Abstract
The Act makes provision for measures to control the importation of plants and the prevention of spreading of plant pests and diseases in Fiji.
The 38 sections of this Act are divided into 4 Parts: Preliminary (I); Powers of inspectors (II); Domestic quarantine control (III); General (IV).
The Public Service Commission shall appoint inspectors for purposes of this act under section 3. The Minister may appoint any land to be a quarantine control station under section 4. Part II concerns the control of importation of “regulated material” i.e. garbage, soil, plant pests and other materials. It defines powers of inspectors, prescribes restrictions on importation, prescribes rules relative to ports of entry, seizure and quarantine, and discharge of garbage. Part III concerns eradication of plant pests in Fiji and the power of the Minister to issue emergency regulations.
