Abstract
This Chapter establishes the Pohnpei Economic Development Authority, defines its functions and powers and provides for its administration and management.
The Authority shall promote the development of agriculture, marine resources, tourism, industry, energy development, banking, transportation, and community development in the state of Pohnpei in accordance with the principles, goals, and objectives of State plans.
It may, among other things, conduct research into natural resources and provide financial assistance to the agricultural sector, carry out research for the development of fisheries and fish processing and obtain or lease land and other real property held by the Pohnpei Public Lands Trust Board of Trustees as required to carry out its purposes and objectives. The Authority is designated as the sole entity to promote, develop, and support commercial utilization of living marine resources and specified activities, rights and powers formerly exercised by the Pohnpei State Fishing Authority shall be transferred to the Authority. The Authority shall determine and formulate the state fishery policy and recommend legislation to the Legislature.
