Abstract
These Regulations implement in part Council Directive 81/602/EC concerning the prohibition of certain substances having hormonal action and of any substances having thyrostatic action, Council Directive 85/358/EC which supplements the said Directive and Council Directive 88/146/EC on the prohibition of the use in livestock farming of certain substances having hormonal action. The Regulations prohibit the sale and slaughter for consumption of animals which have been administered hormonal substances other than authorized substances for which, in the case of slaughter for human consumption, the withdrawal period which has elapsed since administration. "Withdrawal period" means a period of waiting specified by Community Law (reg. 4). Regulations 5 and 6 make provision in relation with hormonal substances of the Animals and Fresh Meat (Examination of Residues) Regulation, 1988 (S.I. 1988/848).
