Abstract
These Regulations amend the Conservation (Natural Habitats, c.) Regulations 1994 in relation to England and Wales, and in some provisions, extending to or applying exclusively to Scotland. The amendments all concern protection of marine natural habitats.
The principal Regulations are amended with respect to a variety of matters including: the definition of European offshore marine site ; consultation of the Joint Nature Conservation Committee in respect of such sites; application of Part IV of the 1994 Regulations (and Part IVA as it applies to Scotland) in respect of certain plans and projects that are likely to have an adverse effect on a European offshore marine site; the status of sites that have been omitted from the national list and have subsequently been the subject of an agreement between the Secretary of State and the European Commission; arrangements for surveillance of the conservation status of natural habitat types of Community interest and species of Community interest and action in consequence of that surveillance; and the prohibition to introduce exotic species into territorial waters of the United Kingdom from aboard a ship.
