Abstract
These Regulations are made in order to address deficiencies in EU-derived domestic legislation in the field of Environmental Impact Assessments. The need for such amendments arises from the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union and its basis is the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018. Reference to Community legislation in the amended instruments shall now be "retained EU law". Also, a new definition of "EU environmental assessment" is given. The Water Resources (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2017 are amended, among other things, in regulation 2(1) by inserting the definitions of "the Habitats Directive", the "Habitats Regulations" and Union legislation as relevant legislation.
