Abstract
These Regulations implement in Northern Ireland Commission Directive 96/8/EC on foods intended for use in energy-restricted diets for weight reduction. They specify names for relevant food in Schedule 1 and prohibit the sale under any name other than those specified of relevant food. Relevant food is food which replaces: (a) the whole of the total daily diet; or (b) one or more meals of the daily diet. Relevant food shall also be labelled with particulars as specified in these Regulations. The Regulations also specify rules for labelling and advertising of food, create offences and specify enforcement authorities.
