Abstract
These Regulations implement in part Council Regulation (EC) No. 2078/92 on agricultural production methods compatible with requirements of environment protection and the maintenance of the countryside. they provide for payment to eligible persons who, in respect of an area of eligible land, undertake not to use such land for a period of at least twenty years and to manage the land with the objective of establishing an area of salt-marsh in accordance with management requirements as set out in the Schedule. These requirements include: (a) management of the land in accordance with a programme agreed with the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food; (b) where the benificiary is responsible for coastal defence, the undertaking of a programme of inundation to be agreed with the Minister; (3) the beneficiary shall not use organic or inorganic fertilizers; (4) the beneficiary shall not use herbicides, insecticides, or fungicides or do anything that in the opinion of the Minister would prejudice the establishment of a salt-marsh vegetation.
