Abstract
This Order establishes a development council for the potato industry. This Council has the functions outlined in the first Schedule, including the promotion of research, the promotion of trade standards and descriptions and the production and marketing of standard products. The Order further: (a) provides for the appointment of members and the proceedings of the Council (arts. 4, 5 and second Schedule); (b) provides for the keeping of a register of producers and first purchasers (arts. 6 and 7); (c) empowers the Council to require registered producers and first purchasers to furnish returns and information (arts. 8 and 11); (d) provide for the imposition of charges by the Council (art. 9); (e) empowers the Council to borrow and to invest money (art. 10); and (f) prescribes offences and penalties (art. 12).
