Abstract
The Powering Up Britain - Energy Security Plan (2023) sets out the steps the Government is taking to ensure the UK is more energy independent, secure and resilient. Firstly the Plan commits to enhance Security of Gas Supply and will do this by maximising supply of UK gas, maintaining and securing our gas import and export capacity, increasing system resilience, and ensuring long term investment in gas network. The second key element of the Plan is Energy Efficiency and Clean Heat; this commitment will be achieved by improving the energy performance of buildings, supporting the roll-out of energy efficient products; by exploring how the energy retail market can support improved energy efficiency; replace fossil fuel heating with clean heat alternatives; and by improving energy efficiency across all businesses and industrial processes. To achieve the third commitment, A future of Cheap, Clean and British Energy, the Plan commits the UK government to: Nuclear energy programs and projects development; renewables such as wind, solar and bioenergy, improve power Networks, Interconnection and System Governance; and to Hydrogen and Carbon Capture and Storage programs, projects and incentives.
