Abstract
This Strategy sets out Scotland’s vision to create a wellbeing economy by 2032; a society that is thriving across economic, social and environmental dimensions, and that delivers prosperity for all Scotland’s people and places. The Ambition is a Scotland that is: Fairer - Ensuring that work pays for everyone through better wages and fair work, reducing poverty and improving life chances; Wealthier - Driving an increase in productivity by building an internationally competitive economy founded on entrepreneurship and innovation; Greener - Demonstrating global leadership in delivering a just transition to a net zero, nature-positive economy, and rebuilding natural capital.
The Strategy focuses on five policy programmes: 1) Entrepreneurial People and Culture - To establish Scotland as a world-class entrepreneurial nation founded on a culture that encourages, promotes and celebrates entrepreneurial activity in every sector of our economy; 2) New Market Opportunities - To strengthen Scotland’s position in new markets and industries, generating new, well-paid jobs from a just transition to net zero. These include renewable energies; hydrogen economy; circular economy; sustainable farming & forestry, nature restoration, eco-tourism; food and drink innovation etc. 3) Productive Businesses and Regions - to make businesses, industries, regions, communities and public services more productive and innovative. 4) Skilled Workforce -To ensure that people have the skills they need at every stage of life to have rewarding careers and meet the demands of an ever-changing economy and society and that employers invest in the skilled employees they need to grow their businesses. 5) A Fairer and More Equal Society - To reorient our economy towards wellbeing and fair work, to deliver higher rates of employment and wage growth, to significantly reduce structural poverty, particularly child poverty, and improve health, cultural and social outcomes for disadvantaged families and communities. &) A sixth programme on delivery introduces a new streamlined delivery model in which all participants are clear about their roles and accept accountability for their actions. This Program ensures Scotland successfully delivers the interconnected policy programmes of action set out in this Strategy and transform the way in which the Government and business listen to, support and work with each other.
