Abstract
Scotland’s National Water Scarcity Plan 2020 is Scotland’s first national water scarcity plan, and sets out how water resources will be managed prior to and during periods of prolonged dry weather. The aim is to ensure the correct balance is struck between protecting the environment and providing resource for human and economic activity. The Plan sets out: high level principles; roles and responsibilities; what assessment methods are used to determine the most appropriate response to water scarcity, this include when to take action and hierarchy of actions depending on scarcity levels. what actions will take during a period of water scarcity; what action we expect others to take.
