Abstract
This Order amends the Sheep and Goats (Records, Identification and Movement) (England) Order 2009 (S.I. 2009/3219) which implements Council Regulation (EC) No 21/2004 establishing a system for the identification and registration of ovine and caprine animals and amending Regulation (EC) No 1782/2003 and Directives 92/102/EEC and 64/432/EEC. Amended articles 3 to 11 provide for the following: to use injectable transponders as a means of identifying goats; to require a sheep intended for slaughter before the age of 12 months to be identified with an electronic eartag; to make a minor amendment to the requirements for entries in holding registers; to require abattoirs, markets, collection centres and assembly centres to report movements of sheep electronically and allows other keepers to do so; to remove the power of local authorities to allow markets to receive incorrectly identified animals and to amend the provisions governing the operation of markets, collection centres, assembly centres and abattoirs when circumstances prevent normal recording and reporting of information.
