Grenada Drought Management Plan.

The goal of the Grenada Drought Management Plan (2019) or also Grenada Dry Season and Drought Management Plan (GDS&DMP) is to achieve the greatest public benefit for domestic water use and sanitation in an efficient and equitable manner during severe dry periods such that there is sustainable economic, social and environmental development. The GDS&DMP is based on participatory approaches in decision making, gender sensitive and the need to urgently address the adverse impacts of climate change on water resources and assuring social and economic well-being through improved water resources management. The purpose of this Plan is: to provide a coordinated and consistent program and a framework for integrating public and private; sector actions to reduce the impact of human suffering; to minimize property losses due to drought; to maximize the efficient use of limited water resources under the public water system’s control in order to protect the health and safety of the public and the environment; to serve as a working guide for the key stakeholder’ agencies that have the capabilities and resources to develop effective response and mitigation programs within their areas of jurisdiction; to establish a consistent basis for evaluating the severity of drought situations; and to identify the lines of communications to allow the smooth flow of information to decisionmakers. The plan focuses on four areas or sectors for discussion - Carriacou and Petite Martinique due to its unique climatic conditions; NAWASA as the main public water supplier, and agriculture and tourism as the main economic drivers.
