The purposes of this Strategic Plan are to improve the health status of all Grenadians by providing appropriate, accessible, equitable and sustainable health care services through qualified and motivated staff.
Infant mortality rate will be reduced by taking measures against slow fatal malnutrition and immaturity. This Strategic Plan underlines the importance of breastfeeding for newborn especially from birth to three months to reduce neonatal mortality rate. This Strategic Plan identifies priority areas in accordance with the results of previous impact assessments. To this end, health information system will be developed. Mortality rate will be reduced by changing the epidemiological disease pattern from communicable to chronic non-communicable diseases. Moreover, measures will be taken according to the analysis on major causes of death. Morbidity information will be collected from hospital discharge database for efficient protection against diseases. This Strategic Plan aims at the improvement of health status of infants from birth to 1 year old, children aged between 1 and 4 years, school children aged between 5 and 9 years, adolescents, women, men, and elderly. The capacity of health personnel will be enhanced. Health service will be provided to women specifically for the protection of maternal and child health.
The Environmental Health Department under the Ministry of Health carries out controls on food hygiene, water quality, imported goods at ports of entry, and animal health.
The Ministry of Health shall be responsible for policy formulation, planning, programming, regulation, vital statistics, expenditure control, and health personnel matters.
