Abstract
The Georgian Strategy for Energy Sector Development 2016-2025 (Electricity) is a national sectoral strategy. Its main objectives are ensuring energy security, creating a competitive environment on the energy market, and developing the energy market based on the principle of sustainable development.
Among others, the document provides for a gradual approximation of the Georgian legislation with the EU legislation; forming an electricity market that is compatible with the EU market; protecting the socially vulnerable customers; modernization of existing generation objects; construction of power generations facilities; construction of small, medium and seasonal hydro power plants; construction of a wind power plant; construction of a solar power plant; construction of a biogas power plant; construction of a gas-fueled power generation plant; construction of a coal-fueled power generation plant; implementation of the transmission network development plan; construction/rehabilitation of a system power distribution network; ensuring the stability and quality of electricity supply; and improving the regional cooperation.
